2021-11-26 · I Bought a Multi-Platen from Jamie at Polar Bear Forge put a 2" rubber wheel and a 4" rubber wheel along with a glass lined steel platen. Tapped the platen for a 1/2x13 bolt, then made it so the 1/2x13 all thread (wheel shafts) was flush on the side where the tooling arm was, this allows me to rotate platen into any position 360 degrees!

2015-4-13 · For the standard platen, you can either put 2 or 3 inch diameter wheels. The aluminum ones will work as long as you aren't planning on grinding against them. If you are, go with the rubber coated style. For the multi platen stick with rubber coated wheels. You have choices on sizes, 2" and 6", 3" and 4", 2" and 8".

2019-8-28 · I bought a Multi platen from Polar Bear Forge. Looks like an elongated bent teardrop, I put a 2" rubber wheel on the top 4" Rubber wheel on the bottom with a steel platen and glass liner. I threaded the teardrops top and bottom holes with a 1/2x13 and cut the wheel mounting bolts flush on the back side (side near tool arm).

Used motors are plentiful and cheap, and wheels are much more affordable now than they were a few years ago. The VFD isn't much more than the step pulleys anyway. Next is a Kmg with step pulleys. I learned on a craftsman 2x42 converted to 2x72.

2014-1-26 · Awesome!!! Nothing beats a good 2x72 grinder, it looks like you have a great start. I did a similar build, I used a polar bear forge kit as the base though - it worked out really well but it wasn't just "put it together" it took quite a bit of work. The VFD was TOTALLY worth the money. You'll love it. I rarely if ever use the grinder at full speed.
